Introduction / Team Overview
Godsent is a Swedish CSGO team, and a fairly new one, having been founded in April 2016 by ex Fnatic star gamer Markus “pronax” Wallsten, with help from his fellow countryman and entrepreneur Tomas Oropesa Martin. Since then, there has been a fair amount of transfer activity on the team, with many of Wallsten’s old team mates at Fnatic joining his new team from August 2016. This transfer activity really set the discussion groups on Reddit ablaze with gossip and speculation, as Godsent set about trying to establish themselves as a serious and successful team on the CSGO scene.
Highlights / Strengths
The real strength of this team is its strong team ethic, exemplified by having an all Swedish line-up of players on its roster, which helps to generate a real sense of unity and purpose in their work. As a new and developing group of players, the Godsent CSGO team has not yet enjoyed much success, though they did win their first tournament in November 2016. This was the CS:GO Minor Championship: EUROPE event, where they beat Hellraisers in the final, and secured a place in the offline qualifier for ELeague Major in Atlanta. They finished in the 9th to 11th tier of final standings at this event, winning $8,750. They have already established themselves in the world’s top 20, and are aiming to make the top 10 in 2017.
Branding / Sponsorship / Logo
The Godsent CSGO team jersey is black and gold, and their logo follows the same colour scheme. There is also a visual pun in the logo, with the design featuring an eye in a pyramid, echoing the feature which occurs on the US dollar bill. A team wallpaper can be downloaded from various sites featuring this design. The team is yet to acquire any major sponsors, something to which many esports fans have reacted to with bemusement in a number of Reddit discussions. They are backed by the media company RFRSH Entertainment, however.
Team Roles / Expertise / Divisions
Alexander ‘rdl’ Redl is the team’s current coach, and he brings a wise head with plenty of CSGO experience to the role. Other roles in the team are filled by Markus ‘pronax’ Wallsten, who is team’s co-founder and captain, and a clutch of other Swedes. Andreas ‘znajder’ Lindberg is the team’s in house star rifler, renowned for his accuracy and explosiveness. Simon ‘twist’ Eliasson is also a rifler, though he sometimes handles the AWP too. Joakim ‘disco doplan’ Gidetun and Jonas ‘Lekr0’ Olofsson complete the line-up.
Roster & Achievements
That roster had brought the team some moderate success, so far. The Minor Championship: Europe is their only outright tournament win so far, though they have taken a place in the 3rd/4th place tier at the DreamHack Winter event in Jönköping in November 2016. Since then, the team has finished sixth in the Esports Championship Series Season 2 – Europe, and in the 9th to 11th tier at the ELEAGUE Major 2017. During 2016, the team also finished in the 3rd/4th tier at three other tournaments, and took an outright fourth place at the StarLadder i-League Invitational #1, and came second at the EPICENTER 2016 – Europe Closed Qualifier
